>There is a new maintenance release (5.0a) of Visual FoxPro available from Microsoft called and ordered a copy. It's absolutely free, and here is the information you need to order.

>Call 800-370-9257 and tell them you want to order Visual FoxPro 5.0a as a maintenance release (otherwise they might try to sell it to you). They will ask you for a number from your CD jacket. They do not want the CD KEY: but the other number on the white label. Other than that, all they needed from me was a shipping address.

>You can order only one copy per call. You can order multiple copies but that requires written correspondence. I was told that it is much simpler for them if you just have each person that owns a copy of VFP to call and order for themselves.

>5.0a is not an update but a complete installation. Because it is a free release, Microsoft does not care if you order one copy and then install it for each copy you own. If you do this, you will wind up with only one product ID and therefore support for only one product. Also, some processes in VFP require the CD to be in the drive. It's better to order a copy for each one you own.

>I was told that it takes about two weeks to receive the 5.0a after you order. I can't confirm this, I haven't received my copy yet.

>The person I talked to could not tell me what all 5.0a fixed, but it was their understanding that there were several things.

I followed your instructions and insisted on getting the upgrade for free. The MS person on the other end originally wanted $5.00 for shipping. But he relented after a minor bit of arm twisting and agreed to forget the five bucks. I really didn't have to protest too much. So now I can look forward to the new upgrade in about a week.
