If that indeed is true, I have no problem changing them to long character fields, provided VFP only uses the space of the data that was input. I know Access does this, but does VFP 6.0 provide the same trait?

Amy,
VFP charater fields are fixed length and use the same amount of space regardless of the data they contain. Their maximum size is 254 characters. This may give you a problem if you use them to replace memo fields.
