If you're in a hurry I can offer you a bad kludge. Copy your DBF to TYPE XLS. And since Word still recognizes an XLS file, you'll be able to merge.

An update. There's a new version of MSDAC 2.1 (known as SP2) at microsoft.com/data.

Once installed on my machine I stil got the limitation in Word (selecting a VFP DBF leads you to an ISAM errror), but if you go through MS Query, the VFP ODBC driver will let you open 2.6 tables.
