I'm just jumping into the middle of this thread so just ignore this idea if you've already tried it.

But we've had problems with memo fields showing garbage when focus returns to the form and the page and it's tied to block size. Both the main form and the edit form need the proper block size or the memo's get confused when focus is returned.

Just a thought but this solves a lot of our memo problems.
