YOU ARE A G O D! What a suggestion, thanks for jumping in. That is just what happened! When I had another problem with the memo field data disappearing when it was selected on the grid someone wrote that they corrected the problem by setting the nBlockSize to 64. Well I did that, but it didn't correct the problem and didn't appear to affect anything else. I forgot I did it (of course) and then worked some more on the form and when I added the edit form (with an nBlockSize of 1) the "garbage problem" appeared.

Thanks to both you and of course Kevin for all the effort that ended up my fault.
