it was suggested i append blank first, the lock(), this seems like it would work i'll try it out.

i did try flock() if reccount = 0 and that works. i guess my problem is that this piece of code has been in use for years in foxpro dos and has not shown up.. maybe ill test it out just for the heck of it and see what happens.
