After contacting Pete, I think that my interpretation of his requirements was inaccurate. Furthermore, I think that some of the suggestions mentioned subsequently would probably be better suited to Pete's requirements.

In essence what I suggested was that the DE was "bolted" onto the form (probably by use of a property) in the form Load event and the Form DE was ignored (except for copying objects within there). This allowed custom cursor objects to added quite easily and allowed the DE to be used any where that data was needed (not always in forms).

I have been privileged to be party to some development using this technique and it worked very well.

However, looking at VFP 6.0 and the ability to create DataSession Objects, there may be alternative methods of achieving the same.
