French immersion is very popular. A few reasons (my opinions):
- many English Canadians feel guilty that they do not speak French
- French is seen by English speakers as exotic and cultured
- French is seen by English speakers as an academic language
- French is widely spoken across the planet (English and Spanish also share this)
