Evan, Evan, Evan...
Can you cite *anything* that establishes that the French were 'persecuted' in Canada????
I will agree that, until the 1960s, most bosses in Quebec were English, with hardly a Frenchman appointed to such levels.
But, on the other hand, until that time the Clergy dominated French Quebec life and were quite happy with that situation. They steered their flock to Lawyering or Doctoring or the Clergy and, because they also ran the French schools, they determined quite early who should be directed there, leaving the others to labour jobs.
It was the Clergy which was changed first by the "quiet revolution", then the businesses. This was sensible because it required at least some business training before they could be bosses.
There was NO PERSECUTION of the French in CANADA at any time. Period!

>>I guess I want to know why Canada has 2 official languages. I gather from what you are saying is because some Canadians don't want to give up their French Heritage.

>I think that because the French in North America were persecuted that it has made their culture very strong and made them proud of their culture. There are parallels in other countries.
