http://www.west-wind.com/wconnect/httpcom.aspThis thing actually uses XML (not an ActiveX control) to call a COM object on the back end server. The demo is a little limited to disallow just any object access for obvious security reasons (which unlike RDS' data object is fully configurable BTW).
This opens up a whole new way of doing things and does not require MS tools on the client, although currently IE5's XML parser is by far the easiest way to do this.
