>The form is a modal form where the OK button closes the form. Just before it closes the key is generated. The view is unique for that form lv_SOLDSTK. My primary form uses lv_accnt_stk. That primary view is the between accnt and soldstk. Getting back to my need for a new key in just soldstk, so I can create a transaction in accnt that binds the two.

Why NOT?
Do all Update Task before Close Form!!
As you using View, you need to Requery the view after update!!
but you need to "REMEMBER" the record key as requery will make
top record return!!
In my another project, I have a modal form which access the table and return back to
main grid as view show! I also do as above!!
Notice: you need to set public data session for the modal form!
Modal is already prevent user from updating non-expect data/form!!
^_~ Good Luck!
