Little report from DevDays in Geneva (Switzerland) I was (like a lot of people) very angry and disapointed with these DevDays regarding Visual Foxpro... I've heard first such a lot of stupid things : "Visual Foxpro is in Visual Studio 97 only to deal with old applications" "Visual Foxpro can't deal with big databases" "VFP is a small tool for small databases" "If my Bank use VFP for their client/server system I bring my money to another Bank !!" "Visual Basic is the only one..." "SQL server is much better than Oracle or Sybase..." And that's just a part of what I've heard... At lunch time one of the man talking against VFP told me that Microsoft was conscious that 30% of developper use VFP but they don't want to promote a product which sells no license... (Money & Business) So all theses Devdays are not for Developper but for Businessmen... Visual Basic is perhaps the only professional and secure system but when they try to launch the demonstration everything goes down with GPF and handler exception and they have to stop the presentation... "Nothing is better than Visual Basic..." Bill and Microsoft have found the solutions to be living Gods : Take the control over the world (Internet) Give new names to things (OCX..ActiveX...) Become the only way ("Where do you want to go ?") Please Bill don't forget that one day Computer was for you not only a Business but also a Passion !!! (Sorry for my bad english, it's not my language and I'm very angry...) Gilles
