There are many regions in Montreal (Dorval, WestMount, etc.) where many residents don't know a word of french. I don't say that it is the majority of them, but some of them. They even have english only street signs over there :)

There was a provincial governement conference this weekend where they discussed, among other things, the situation of french in Montreal. They said that a good proportion of immigrants who come to Montreal choose english over french as a second language.

The demographic situation in Montreal has changed a lot in the past years. Nearly all english peoples and immigrants lives on the the island of Montreal and a lot of french Quebec-native peoples chose to live in the suburbs of Montreal. So french in Montreal is declining at a fast rate.
>As I said, I don't know the statistics, but my impression is that Montreal is more French than English. At least from my 1.5 years experience there.
