I don't know whether or not it's a good idea, but I decided to use VFP 6.0 as a front end client to a SQL Server 7.0 DB. It has been easy enough so far.

I set up an ODBC connection and have been using VFP remote views to access the SQL DB, although I'm now starting to replace the views with SQL passthrough statements now. The remote views were very easy to set up (for someone like me who has never programmed in Fox Pro), but I think the SQL passthrough is a bit faster (I'm sure some might argue...)
