They will reach a size where they then begin to hover, not growing or shrinking by any significant amount.

I'm thinking of something like eBay, e.g., though, that grows nearly exponentially for a long while. Eventually, the theory will win, but practically, it may take too long for it to stabilize, to apply the theory in practice.
