ah, no. Its not a question of 'need' - merely convenience. You have, for example, a street name of 'Abercrombie Road' and you find it should be 'Street' instead of 'Road'. The user simply wants to be able to start their editing at the beginning of the word 'Road' rather than be forced to the beginning of the Field.

So the question remains, how has 'subclassing' caused this behaviour, (I have verified that if I use a vfp base class textbox, I have no problem)
