>The documentation sez VFP uses a different algorithm to process an index than dBase and when you open a dBase .dbf in VFP it automatically creates a new .cdx . Question is, can you still index on the old .ndx file in a VFP app or does it ignore the .ndx and use the .cdx instead? Also, if it can use the .ndx what is the disadvantage if any?

Hi Eric,

If you want to use and preserve your NTX files, you should treat this data as remote . That is create a DBC, then a connection to your dBase files and finally a remote view on them. You'll need an ODBC driver to handle this. Check Merant http://www.merant.com/datadirect/products/odbc/Connect/techdocs/matrix.asp
