The reason is there are spaces. Better is this:
lcstring = STR(my_amt, 10, 3)
lcstring = CHRTRAN(ALLTRIM(lcstring), ".", "")
lcstring = PADL(lcstring, 9, "0")
I never can remember about those parameters for the STR() function< g >.
