>In real life, how big can we handle with a vfp6 application on native databases (on a NT 4) ? For a standard business application (accounting, invoicing, ordering, inventory, etc...), is there anybody running around 50 users ? What is the performance ? At this size, is it absolutely needed to go client-server ?

Hi Eric. I don't have an exact answer to your question, but check out some of these extremes that VFP is capable of (from my faq):

One question I have is that will there be 50 potential users, 50 casual users or 50 users pounding hard on the system with data entry and reports?

**********
VFP can handle huge amounts of data. Here are some examples:

1) The eurotunnel project used 128 GB data, 24 hours/day (fox dos)(http://www.paltielinc.com/vfp1.html)

2)Universal Thread has over 400,000 transactions per day and is based on VFP (http://www.levelextreme.com)

3) Rick Strahl built the Surplus Direct site it had peaks of "500,000+ VFP server hits a day and 28,000 VFP server hits per hour"

4) Searching on "System Capacity in VFP6 help
"Maximum # of records per table file 1 billion
Maximum size of a table file 2 gigabytes
Maximum # of characters per record 65,500
Maximum # of fields per record(1) 255
Maximum # of tables open at one time(2) 255
Maximum # of characters per table field 254
Maximum # of open index files per table(2) unlimited
Maximum # of open indexes in all work areas(2) unlimited
Maximum # of relations unlimited"

The typical business app would not reach these capacity levels.
