If you set QUOTED_IDENTIFIERS off, you can use double-quotes to delimit a string. The better solution is to double the single-quotes that aren't delimiters.

SQL = "UPDATE sometable SET ems_desc = 'VERT STOCK TAB''S' WHERE..."
