They use the menu very little, usually at the end of the day to run sales reports or if the manager wants to get in and make changes to the system. By getting rid of the menu it gives the staff less to think about and it keeps them out of trouble.

I don't actually see what troubles you may have hiding/showing the menu using SET SYSMENU ON/OFF. I did it myself in one application and it worked. You may also try HIDE MENU.
