Oh no, no, no, no. 255 character limit? There's a 255 character limit to my SQL statement? If I count from the first double quote to the last double qoute, I've got a total of 303 characters! Oh no. Ugh! I've spent countless hours trying to figure this out, only to be bitten by a character limit bug, er I mean feature?

Well if I remove unnessary spaces, semi-colons, etc., maybe I can get it down to 255 characters. Gee, why couldn't the VFP error message be something like "You have too many characters" instead of "Command contains unrecoginized phrase/keyword." I guess that would make programming too easy!

Boy, am I embarassed. Now that I think of it, I remember encountering this 255 limit before. I must have lossed too many brain cells trying to figure that one out (but I did find the problem on my own).

Even more embarrassing: I did a search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base looking for SQLEXEC, hoping to find an answer to my problem. One of the headers the search returned was entitled "HOWTO: Create an SQL Command with > 255 Characters" but I didn't even bother reading it!

Oh well, the important thing is getting it to work. I'd better go read that KB article!
