Hi Francis,
I don't have a solution for you off the top of my head. I've used the WIN.INI solution and I know that one works. I'm thinking, however, that there may be a message that can be sent. I'm not sure. Remember that when applications install and make changes to the registry, Windows usually is re-booted, part of the reason being to re-load the registry.
I'll do some research and post back.
