I've never seen anyone discuss it before, so I don't know if anyone else has used this particular trick. I have some output that I compile and need to reblock to 80 characters before it is transmitted. In order to see the entire layout in one structure I created one structure for the entire thing. Since the output is 80-byte blocked the fields already end at 80 character spaces (no middle of the field wrapping). I simply inserted a 2 character field after the 80th character and stored a carriage return, line feed sequence in the field. Then, using copy to ... I copy out the data and the carriage return is used so that the final output is blocked to 80 bytes even though my original layout was 400 bytes long.
