I tried using this function several months ago and found out from Ed Rauh after much frustration that the function is broken. Does anybody know if it has been fixed in more recent versions of WinInet.dll?

Does anybody know of a comparable function? I am trying to find out from the OS if the computer is currently connected to the internet.

I am aware of methods like PINGing to a text file, but I really want to avoid an operation that has to time out if I can.
