>If you want to store the dashes in the ssan you can, but I personally like to store just the numbers. In the text box, I have the input mask = "###-##-####" and the format = "R". It makes it easy to see the SSAN but it is stored as 9 digits. Select the format property in your properties window and hit F-1 for more details.

Thanks for the good answers, Jon. The only addition I can think of is that you can use the "R" format in reports as well, so your SSN, phone #s, etc. will format correctly on printouts. It really does save users a lot of effort.
