I am having the same problem. I'm using something like this:

lcprinter = GETPRINTER()
SET PRINTER TO (lcprinter)

Then after the report is done I issue a SET PRINTER TO DEFAULT. This process is very unpredictible. Usually it will print to the optional printer once and then revert to the default the next time the report is printed. Sometimes it doesn't print at all.
