>Yeah, we're making that decision at my house right now... install a second line, or wait to see if and when DSL and/or cable-modems are coming to our neighborhood. Any thoughts?
Cable modem is what I use. It's blazing fast. Our local bell just sent info about DSL, but I think I'm gonna stay with cable modem. I usually get at least 20 KB/Sec download, not unusual for me to get 40 or more. The first download I did was a 2 meg file. Started it, turned away for a few seconds, came back and it was done. I thought something was wrong! So far it's been pretty reliable, a few glitches here and there (I've had some problems today but I think it's my proxy settings). It would be nice to have a true static IP, but it doesn't renew the lease that often. Have either the phone company or cable company announced anything? I got on a mail list for the cable company to keep me informed about when it would be available. As a result, they offered me a beta deal where some of the install was knocked off and the first month was free. Check with them to see if they have anything like that.
