I've done this:

x=repl("a", 288)+' '+repl("b", 288)+' '+repl("c", 288)
?words(x)
(returns 3 just like it should)
y=wordnum(x,2)
?len(y)

And it returned 255 on me. George, do we have this documented somewhere?
