Sure, let's see it Stephen.

In the meantime, here's something related...

The theatre group I am part of is putting on a home-brew play about Y2K (set on New Year's eve) at beginning of Nov. I have the part of a street weirdo/bum who is warning everyone that the world ends at midnight unless they get to Sudbury (Ont) (which has very deep and so "safe" mine shafts). Here is a "poem" that is part of my dialogue:

Mea Culpa! Mea Culpa!
Mea Maxima Culpa!
For all programmers, I now must confess
We made bad mistakes a long time ago
Which is why we’re now facing this mess.

At I.B.M., then
We never thought when
This century would come to an end.
So we merrily card-punched two digits for dates
Careful not to fold, spindle or bend.

Then computers were new
Understood by us few
Who constantly baffled the rest.
For 30 years, people thought we were brilliant!
And now we’ve been put to the test.

So, on New Year’s Eve “ninety-nine”
Enjoy the good food and wine
At midnight everything grinds to a halt.
That time bomb we planted, so long ago,
Will cause the wired world to default.

Traffic lights will not work.
Elevators stop with a jerk.
There will be no electrical power.
T.V.s and microwaves will all be kaput!
You won’t even be able to shower.

All computers will die.
Airplanes will not fly.
A.T.M.s won’t give you your cash
VISA cards will be just pieces of plastic
Stock markets will suddenly crash.

What a cause célèbre,
You can’t surf the WEB!
The nerds will be out of their head.
With no chat rooms to visit 20 hours a day
They’ll have to meet real people instead.

Those still computer-free
Will clap hands with glee
As the technocrats tumble and fall.
But you know, the way the world is going today
It might be a good thing after all.

It's best heard than read, but there it is.

Cheers,

Jim N

>I'll post the lyrics if there is an interest.
