I ran into something similar over the weekend. I'm posting this more as an FYI to everyone than a reply to you specifically.

I had to fax something from my home over this past weekend. I scanned the documents in just fine, but when I tried to send the fax, I got a message saying that "MAPISP32" had commited an illegal operation and would be shut down. The information included a reference to kernel32. The solution was renamed MAPI32.DLL and copy an older version of it into the system directory. This applies to the use of Microsoft Fax under Win 98 SE.
