Charlie:
Let's say your data is located on a network and your users have the application EXE installed on their hard drives and everyone is tied togther on a WAN.
When a user opens the database at the start of an appication, then opens a form based on a parameterized view, how much of the file is tranfered into memory on the users machine? Since the FoxPro data engine doesn't run in its own process, significant amounts of data will be transfered over the wire. Certainly, more than the just the results of the query.
I have applications running on our LAN with users also on the WAN. The WAN connections are very slow compared to the LAN. Switching the backend to SQL Server will cause much less network traffic and yield better performance on the WAN. The performance may be slightly slower on the LAN.
