Hi George,

That was Pascual Perez from the Dominican Republic.

In addition to his missing a start because he couldn't find the ballpark and sportswriters regularly forming pools as to when he would arrive at spring training, his brother Melido joined him in the major leagues in 1988 -- and the two brothers bet on who would win the most games, with a *cow* as the prize.

They each won 12.

Supposedly, the cow is still on the loose (g)

Cheers,
Evan Pauley

>>Speaking of I-285, don't know if you ever heard the story of the rookie pitcher for the Braves who was late to a baseball game because he got on I-285 and drove for hours and didn't realize that he was driving in circles around the city. George ... back me up on this story, will ya? I don't remember who the guy was.

>Oh yeah, that was Pascal Perez. I'm not sure about the spelling of the first name though. His teammates gave him a jersey with I-285 when he was with the Braves.

>To friends who visit from out of town, we tell them, "You might think it's called 285 because that's the interstate number. Nope! It's called that because the people think it's the speed limit."< g >
