I guess I disagree. VFP does not equate to a crappy TV show. It is more like a high quality show that few people watch.

A name change per se would be meaningless but the marketing effort surrounding the name change could put a positive spin on the newly named VFP. Of course, either way it would probably be smoke and mirrors but MS excels at such marketing above all else.

With saavy MS marketing the exchange might go more like this:

MS marketing public line: "New e-database product built specifically for e-commerce. Includes all the best features from each of our database products. (blah, blah, blah) (really cool name) (blah, blah, blah) (buzzwords e.g. object oriented, Internet, e-****, etc.) (catchy marketing crap: Viper-speed record access...)

MS marketing private thoughts: "These stupid boneheads will buy whatever we tell them to buy. This is just VFP repackaged. If they had any sense, they would have bought it before we put the Baywatch crew on the package."

Client: "Did you here about this awesome new product? We really want to get on board this hot MS technology."

You: "Oh, yeah, this is must-have technology. The hottest product ever. (blah, blah, blah)"

Client: "Gee, I'm glad we finally agree on technology. I was getting tired of telling you that FoxPro is worthless technology that MS will abandon."

You (thinking to yourself): "You stupid moron. I wish I could tell you that this is really FoxPro but I'm just grateful that we can move on from your advocacy of Access for this billion record system."
