To print to a network printer from DOS you have to "capture" the printer port. Win98 allows this directly in the properties,details page of the printer. NT (in its infinite wisdom) does not.
It can be had however. You need to issue a net use command within the DOS session. This can be done at a command prompt or in the autoexec.dos (I think that is the name) file. The syntax is:
net use lpt1 \\servername\shared_printer_name
