I am sure that when you say "I simply run the mdac_typ.exe"
you mean:

you start a dos session and type "change user /install"
then run the mdac_typ.exe
then in the dos session type "Change user /execute"
Right?!?

We have MDAC 2.1 running on our Terminal Server 4.0 sp4
and have not had any problems.

Hope this helps.
