I've been very nicely surprised by the response since his mess. I've gotten about a half dozen emails from various folks in various capacities - and I've seen the word "apologize" in several of them - not something you see a lot of from MSFT...
"We apologize for DLL Hell."
"We apologize for c00000000005."
"We apologize for Bob."

I'm beginning to think that they really just goofed up. Remember that skit when Mel Gibson hosted Saturday Night Live? He did a big comparison of Movies and TV.
Movies
------
I get paid a lot of money. I mean, a LOT of money. No, really, LOTS AND LOTS of money.
It's easy work.
If you screw up, you just shoot another take.
TV
--
You don't get paid well at all.
It's very hard work.
If you screw up - you do it in front of millions of people - and it can ruin your career.
So... Movies - low risk, high reward. TV - high risk, low reward. So why am I on TV?
"Sometimes I don't think things through very well...."
