I don't have a fix to GENDBC, but I do have a commercial product recommendation. Stonefield Database Toolkit.
SDT uses a set of metadata files to create, maintain and update not only database containers but also free tables, and itr includes reliable replacements for a number of commands that are walking timebombs like REINDEX and PACK. It makes deplaying changes to tabeles, indexes, views and stored procedures easy and reliable, and has great support. It's more than paid for itself for me.
Stonefield's got their support area here on UT, and they are UT partners - the discount to PUTM members about covers a year of PUTM. You've probably spent more time chasing your tail with GENDBC problems than it wouldv'e cost to buy SDT, without considering any of the other product benefits.
