OK, I finally got it to work like I wanted. Your most recent comments on binding the productID put me on the right track.
I set up a RowSource of 3-SQL and read the products table into a cursor. Set the bound column to the ProductID column (3) and set the control source to the orderitems.productid field. Interactive change event has a refresh() in it, and the Valid event has code to stuff the 'Colors' and 'Price' fields into their respective control values, followed by a grid refresh().
Do you see any potential problems with that?

I have that article, but it addressed methods that didn't seem appropriate for what I was trying to do.

I hope to order the set of CDs with prior year articles in them for lookup. I find that magazine to have lots of valuable info for someone at my level.
Thanks for your help
