Can someone suggest a good way to learn the pros and cons of using FoxPro (or different database engines) to store data which will be accessed from a Visual Basic 5.0 program?

I know that Jet is the engine which ships with VB, but I've had corruption problems with Jet and I'd like to weigh my options.

I would appreciate opinions, technical info, or links to resources which would help me make this decision. I'm considering FoxPro but I've read that one cannot remove deleted records without using FoxPro to compact the database. This would be a problem since
we don't plan to ship a run-time copy of FoxPro with the software.
