I had the same problem (we use the é etc also in the Netherlands)
Because I'm using vfp I need to copy it to fox2x format.

I do that with the following command:
COPY TO TYPE FOX2X AS 437

Notice the AS 437, this one makes sure it is converted (if neccesary) to codepage 437, the codepage CR is using.
