>I spent the better of two years developing a non-commercial VFP framework which would be impossible to accomplish with VB. While VB does have advantages with repect to middle-tier development (e.g. event raising), I find it hard to justify it's use. In other words, I have yet to have a need for any advantage VB has to offer.

Lets see, at $125.00 per hour for 2000 hours per man-year, you have spent the equivalent of a half-million billable dollars to develop your framework. Just curious, what was lacking in the other frameworks that lead you to such an expensive decision. Of course, judging by where you work, a defense contractor, I now understand why $1,000 hammers and $500 dollar toilet seats exists <s>.

Finally, have you ever used VB? Did you ever evaluate the other frameworks? Or, was it your goal to be a framework builder???? Unless your framework is so specialized, you decision here makes no economic sense whatsoever.

>What use to take me months to accomplish now takes me weeks or even days. I can't even begin to imagine how long it would take to accomplish the same in VB.

mucho dinero mi amigo.

And of course, you are amortizing the dev costs of the framework....right??? I don't understand, are you an independent, or do you work for somebody. You are talking either like an independent, or a guy who moonlights on the side.
You analysis is flawed here. Please don't forget about the two years you spent writing the framework. I would dare say they payback period for this endeavor would be at least 2 years. Will you still be doing the same thing in 2 years??

>The bottom line is that I have no incentive to use VB.

Of course not. You have a $500K nut to crack here don't you???...<bg>

>Sorry JVP, but in the final analysis, all your points are weak.

It is interesting you use the word analysis here. If you are going to debate me, hit my points head on. You have taken one narrow segment of the whole topic as a platform to justify your 2 year app framework development odyssey. FWIW, I don't for one moment debate the strength of VFP frameworks. This is not about whose tool is better. I use both, and I use and love the VFE framework. Rather, it is a debate about dismissing legimate questions posted up here about which tool to use with 1 or 2 lame-ass sentences that do nothing to address the real question. You are not going to get an argument from me about the virtues of VFP frameworks and how the abilities in VFP make it easier to develop such tools. However,in the grand scheme of things, in the bigger development world, a tick on a dogs ass might be more significant.

Let me say again, VFP is a great tool, I use it, I earn a living with it. I also use VB, VI, SQL-Server, Access, Office, and some other tools. When will many up here stop with the stock party line of 'VFP is better because it is my tool' When will many up here look at questions like the one that started this thread in an objective, impartial manner.

It's a big world out there, time to start thinking outside of the box!!
