There is no single defintion. One usage of the word component refers to the DLL that encapsulates various classes. Another usage refers to the classes themselves. Another usage refers to objects, the instance of classes.

For me, I like the idea of associating the word component with a class. For example, a customer component is the class that encapsulates the attributes and actions a customer can perform.

Like anything, components can be very complex or very simple. In the case of ADO, we are really talking about a set of components - (connection, command, recordset, etc).

Just my 2-cents...
