Thanks again. I guess I had the syntax ok but not a header file with Excel types. I'll have Menachem's book in a few days and I hope that it will be a good reference. I also have a book 'Teach Yourself Visual Basic for Applications in 21 days'(Sams) and 'A Vusual Guide to Visual Basic for Applications' (Ventena). They are several years old but I guess I better get reading. They give a lot of Excel examples but of course not in VFP syntax.
