Actually I agree with Walter. No one can judge the performance pitfals to modifiying VFP other than the people who write and test it. We can only guess.

Things like goofy paperclips may seem silly to us because we are jaded, we know how the computer works and how to use it without needing those type of helping hands. But alot of people could care less about learning how everything works, to the extent we do, and if having some little extra piece helps them then fine.

We don't realize it but most people are terrified of using a computer, afraid they'll break it, it makes them feel inadequate because they can't learn it, etc... We need to do everything we can to overcome that.

I was really amazed at MS marketing when windows 95 came out, it was completely pointed at destroying that perception. A lot of the scary terms have disappeared and been replaced by something more friendly like Folders, Favorites, My computer, Explorer, etc... Remember the slogan "Where do you want to go today?", make the computers friendly and people will use them.

As far as other features like cool buttons that really don't add functionality do add "Coolness" and "Coolness" sells much better than "ugly".

A lot of people like to hate the marketing department because they ask for what we may deem silly and eye-candy but their only goal is to sell product, and if the product sells better with some goofy graphic, cool, more money for the company and more money to pay my salary.

That's not to say you should or shouldn't implement those features, it's your choice and what your users want. But I feel we should be free to implement them if we choose. I personally hope newer versions of vfp have as many cool features they can pack in. It just gives us that much more advantage over other development platforms that don't have them.
