I have several clients running FPW2.6 on fast PCs, PIII450 and up. They all installed FPW from the original diskettes. AFAICT, the patching process is 2 steps:
- Patch the original FPW2.6 to FPW2.6a
- Patch FPW2.6a to fix the speed-related problem.
The clients claim to have done everything correctly, and received no errors on installation. However, the patches do not seem to work - they still get the startup error, and other nasty errors such as "I/O Operation Failure" when trying REINDEX, etc.
Unfortunately, my version of FPW is 2.5b so I can't test the patching process myself. Can anyone help me out here:
1. Does the MS patch work reliably regardless of PC speed?
2. Are there any "gotchas" in the patching process that might trip up users who are not support professionals?
