Evan,

I totally disagree with you on this issue. This thread is in the section chatter, that section, in my opinion, is for chattering about anything the members choose to discuss.

I think John has every right to post his message, I certainly would have if the anonymous attack was on me. The opinions expressesd by the others in thread are invaluable in leeting Jonh know where he really stands in our eyes.

John has posted enough technical knowledge in this forum to allow him months of chatter without changing his sound to noise ratio. As one of John's colleagues in teh sysop group, I find John to be the voice of our conscience often bringing a discussion back to the basics. John has never asked that any thread be deleted, as he is a striong advocate of NO CENSORSHIP at all. Even when a "weasel" posts and anonymous attack on him, his reply said he "did not want it removed" because that would be censorship.

In life we meet people we really like a lot, and we meet people we really dislike a lot, but most people we meet we forget shortly after meeting. John, because he is out front with his opinions and his feelings, is a target of either being liked a lot or disliked a lot, but one thing that is true is that John will unlikely ever be one forgotten.

I beleive that this thread has as much right to be here as any other off-topic thread that has ever been here.

It has no international controversyT

The poor choice of words in places are appropriate to the subject

It only insults the one "weasel" who posted an anonymous atack and that person deserves to be insulted (actually they insulted themselves by being a weasel)

It serves to reinforce our opinions about John's demeanor directly to John himself with signed responses

It alerts the meembership of a major important issue about etiquette here (mainly have the courage to sign your posts or don't post them)

It shows one of the reasons that this placve is so much better than enwsgroups where just about everyone is hinding behind anonymity

Enough said.
