I have, thinking back to the ruckus I caused over piracy. I felt (and still feel) very strongly about the issue of piracy. I still believe that people who pirate software are low-life thieves, somewhat below the level of an insurance salesman on the evolutionary scale. And I got beaten to death, with my own ethics impugned, because I said that in public on the UT. At one point I let it drop - I carried on some back channel discussions in private with a few people after the fact, who're probably still P.O.'d over what I had to say. I wasn't making any headway, wasn't going to change their minds, and was starting to annoy myself as much as the people I wanted to toast over an open pit...

IOW, I got tired of annoying other people, and spending my energies in a pointless pursuit. So I went back to writing code and other more useful pursuits here on UT.

Here is where I think you've overreacted. I don't think George meant to attack you, or condemn your behavior. There is a level of polite, politic and gracious response that most people would expect from you. It's like when I get kicked under the table at the restaurant for leaning forward on my elbows in the middle of a meal, gesticulating and knocking over a water glass. I step out of what might be considered polite social behavior, and Karen gives me a quick shot in the shins to get me back in line.

IOW, BFD. George thinks you ought to apologize. You don't. What I think doesn't matter, so I'll keep my f-ing mouth shut on the topic. I don't think his admonishment of your message was impolite - maybe not a good idea in the heat of an argument, but not meant to embarrass or discredit you, or put words in your mouth.

That's one advantage to not deleting the thread - if there are people who really want to debate the semantics of the thread (not here, please), the whole thing is here in black and white. It don't mean nothing.
