All of the children you have are all related to the parent record you fetched. There is no reason for the use of SET RELATION. When you fetch another parent, you then fetch it's children as well. i.e., you only fetch the records you need to currently work with...

As far as your relation table in the middle of a relation goes. Short of that being a M to M junction table, I have'nt a clue as to what that would be used for...
