from the Merriam Webster dictionary:

- (noun) a substance(as emery or pumice) used for abrading, smoothing, or polishing

- (adjective) 1: tending to abrade 2: causing irritation

So either you're used as a polishing agent, or irritating at times, as all of us can be... :-)
